Re: A bet my friend made..

Well he's probably right, he will plow better, but in over 4ft of spring snow that will just make him hopelessly stuck. As I'm sure you know it is all about the snow conditions. Had an interesting run up Tonga ridge Sat. Spring snow with frozen base at the bottom was fairly easy going (Running 35s a...

Re: Current Recommendations?

I can't believe no one has been all the way over the pass.... I guess there aren't too many snow wheelers out there anymore. Might have to make a run down there. Jacks Pass is nice because the main road doesn't have much elevation gain. The guy in our group who set the high mark was in a Rubicon on...

Re: Current Recommendations?

I ran the Beckler River Rd toward Jack's pass on NYD with a large group of JKs. The trail is not broken all the way to the pass. We extended it some, but didn't make it all the way either. Lots of downed trees to go over and around and the snow was about 3ft deep at 1500 ft. It was the same difficul...

Re: Capitol Forest Snow Run on Sunday 16th (Still adding pic

Nope, didn't make it to Jack's Pass. We broke trail for about a 1/4 mile past 6520/6530, cut one tree out of the way and decided to turn around since it was very slow going and several of us wanted to watch the Seahawk game (good call!). Too much snow to get lugs to the ground...about 4ft. Based on ...

Re: Capitol Forest Snow Run on Sunday 16th (Still adding pic

2-3 psi? Really? I have 35x12.50x17 on beadlocks. Should I be running that low? I've been running 5 and doing pretty well but couldn't get on top of the Cascade Concrete on my last run to Beckler River on Sunday. Snow was heavy and soft and already 4 ft deep at 1800ft elevation. When we hit the end ...

Re: Snowshoeing Gear

Another reasonable snow shoe to consider is http://www.bigfootsnowshoes.com/ We have 4 pair in the family now and like them a lot. We are casual weekend snow shoers but they all have many miles on them now. Bindings are easy to use and work well. For snow around here (deep) I suggest going up one si...

Oops, I thought you only had to register to post. Here are the pics Next three are on a little climb near the bottom. Not much snow but very icy. Re: More snow wheeling pics

We did the run Sun but did not make it to the top of Tonga ridge. Insane amounts of new snow up there. 21in new Fri and 48 new Sat! When we got above about 3500ft conditions got really challenging. I was doing ok but the other two jeeps with me were needing frequent tugs to get out of the soft...

Re: Tonga ridge Sat 11/24

I wouldn't be too worried about it. By the time you get to the end of the difficult snow no tweakers are going to get there. I would not hesitate to leave a soft top at Tonga ridge trail head for example. Only people I have ever seen up there I would trust to not mess with my rig. Down at the firepi...

Re: Tonga ridge Sat 11/24

Thanks....just cellphone snapshots. That's a real compliment coming from you....I've surfed around your site and love your work!

I'm hoping to hookup with some serious snow wheelers who want to do a snowshoe hike after driving as far as we can.

Re: More snow wheeling pics

Yeah, I think we crossed that avalanche twice already and the guy breaking trail came real close to going over the edge at the last crossing. He tried to drive through it and didn't make it but slid down hill when backing out (non selectable lockers). This was a YJ buggy on 42s. Where we turned arou...

More snow wheeling pics

Did two runs this weekend. Sat tried to make it to Twin Lakes up by Mt Baker. Snow level started at 3000ft and the base was wet, heavy and slick. Several avalanches were challenging to cross and we finally turned around here just after the first switchback https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_CGKgTaS...

Re: Tonga ridge Sat 11/24

Yes, we broke trail going up to the Tonga ridge trailhead and again at the next climb which I think was toward Mt Sawyer but it was an unmarked road. The main road (6830) had other traffic, mostly snowshoers and christmas tree hunters. I lead for most of the day and the combination of low pressure (...

Re: Tonga ridge Sat 11/24

Too bad you couldn't make it, snow and weather were better than expected. Snow level was about 3500ft and it was sloppy but as we went up it got better and better. Drove right up to the top of Tonga ridge passing several snow shoe'rs on the way. This was about 4300ft elevation and had about 24in of ...

Tonga ridge Sat 11/24

I'm running up Tonga ridge as far as we can on Sat. There is 20+ inches of snow up there now and it keeps throwing in a melt/wet cycle so I don't know if we'll make it to the top. Anyone interested is welcome to join us (3 JKs). Meeting in Monroe at 9:00. Great snowshoe trail at the top.

Re: Hand siping tires with an Ideal Tire Groover

i was sinking to my knees in this pic. Ha, that's why I started to bring snow shoes on my offroad snow runs last year. Cool pic, where is that? I ran MTRs last year also, but they were down to 4-8/32 of tread with the least tread in the center. They had been aggressively grooved (not siped) by the ...
