Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...

Things are pretty touch and go right now. The high country is not really passable anymore, so that leaves shorter trips in the areas around my area. One suggestion is to contact https://www.facebook.com/Frontier4Wheelers/ . They do monthly rides and cover a lot more area than I do. I haven't been o...

Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...

I got to do a bit of snow wheeling Sunday afternoon. I cut the heck out of my worn Falkens to limp by until I get new tires. They now work really, really, really well in the snow. I was wheeling with my buddy in his locked up, crawler geared '82 Toyota with 36" bias TSLs and I was wheeling circ...

Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...

Hey your down near Helena somewhere... I would like to get a little snow wheeling in late season. Do you have any place that stays open to wheeled vehicles down there and would you be willing to be our local guide? I just want to get one or two trips in this winter after I get some decent tires on.

They look like they would work well.

Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...

I had considered the Truxus, but to be honest I have a price point for 5 tires, and they are about $400 north of it.

Don't get me wrong (older version), great street, street snow, and sand tire but mud, they just plug up.
That's just about exactly what my wife said after using the Falkens for two years.

Re: Iroks or Pit Bull?

A buddy of mine has a set of bias rockers in one of the 39-40" sizes on his Toyota. They are pretty stiff but they do still work in the deep. Very flippin' wide, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't depending on the kind of snow.

New Sneakers with Tax Refund...

Another pathetic tire bench racing thread... I am buying a new set of tires for the 4runner as soon as we get our tax refund. 36" or bigger would be fun and I really want a set of those 40" Yokohamas on the rack. However, I will be buying more 35x12.50 15s, since I can turn them eas...

Re: Rear Chains

I used to run chains when I ran 33s. I used to spin my rims in the tires aired down with chains and then my wheel weights would be in the wrong place. I find too that after a certain tire size you just don't need them any more.

Re: 2015/2016 Snow Wheeler check-in

Well, I'm not sure. There was a guy I sold a stoker crank to from Belgrade last year that was into big snow. He seemed to have some place down there. I had a pretty good time coming into the Little Belts from the Judith Gap side. That part doesn't get shut for sleds only down like the Monarch side d...

Re: 2015/2016 Snow Wheeler check-in

Last year sucked completely. My 4runner was down waiting for engine parts (you would not believe how hard it is to put together an early 22r in this region), we were broke and I had a hernia from turbo shoveling out our road so I could get the car out. This winter should be better. I am looking to g...

Re: best all around snow vehicle?

I think you could get away with 40s with Toy axles on a dedicated snow rig. I would say run 35s in the summer for high traction wheeling and keep of the stupid pedal except when necessary. I know a bunch of guys here in MT that wheel 39s and 40s on Toy axles with a 4 banger and do just great. They h...

In an interesting turn of events I got the job as the appraiser for the whole county for department of revenue dealing with property values for property taxes. Oddly enough that seemed to quite the folks that were giving us a hard time. Can't imagine why... Over the last year we got the house up and...
