Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...
If you run into mud, stay away from the BFG ATs, mud is not what they were made for.
Don't get me wrong (older version), great street, street snow, and sand tire but mud, they just plug up.

Re: Sliding Backwards
What do you have for an air gauge? Yes pretty sure they're 3 ply. I haven't siped them because I also use them in the rocks in the summer but I probably should do at least some shallow surface siping. Air gauge is just generic 0-60PSI analog gauges on my air up/down tools. They are a few PSI ...

Be careful just throwing bigger tires on, not knowing what your gearing is, the tires could make it become a huge hwy pig that gets even worse mpg.

Re: 2015/2016 Snow Wheeler check-in
H8PVMNT Is there much wheeling in that area? My parents live about an hour away (Monarch) but can't seem to get them to find any trails in the area. Seem all the Lewis and Clark trails are for bikes or quads and the roads shut down in winter for snowmobiles or calving, so FS road are out until June ...

Re: Need some help getting set up
I'll second Nobody, if big tires aren't an option a good set of chains will help. I've seen them work but they were very unforgiving when he did stop. I'll add a winch on a receiver with receivers front and rear and something to bury (spare tire has worked in the past). This could help just that ...

This year looks like a good start at this time. Have the Blazer updated this year with a new engine, working rear locker but not sure I like the wider track necessitated by cross-over steering. http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i378/rjewing99/Azer/Azer_Colockum_58_zpsf7786989.jpg Also getting ...

Re: Place To Get Tires Balanced Well
Dynamic balancing works well.
Wallyworld air soft pellets work well and with beadlocks they are easy to install.
You can also try balancing with a bubble, take a look at YouTube. This might take a little investment but if you're in-control, might be with it.

WABDR
Last night I was making my way through different boards thinking about the Alaska off-road show, another thread on an expedition adventures and remembered the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (WABDR). http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/WABDR Just because things are a little quiet, I'll ...

Re: Questions about snow wheeling "willing" :)
It's a little hard understand exactly what you want but I'll give it a try. 1.) 8" rim and 12.50 wide tires will be fine. I actually prefer the narrower rim, holds the bead a bit better and once aired down the tire flattens out nicely. 2.) "35x12.5... ... will it let me just go into any deep snow ...

Re: 12/27
Not a bad little shake down run. I wish we had more snow. I'd say there was a solid 2 feet of snow with deeper drifts here and there. It was too wet to take many pictures. Visibility was so poor there wasn't much to see anyway. On the way out it was near white out conditions during some of the ...

Re: best all around snow vehicle?
Either rig will work great. Big tires (flotation), lockers (traction), low gears (ability to turn tires slowly), and light weight (helps float on top) are what you're looking for in a snow rig.

To much drama, under built rigs, lack of seatbelts, pretty country and follows the same format as ice road truckers and axe men.
But I'll keep watching.

Old thread but
When I was down there the Mesa wheels went up to the Strawberry area. We got stopped pretty easy in the deeper snow but they where not great snow wheelers at that time and I was just learning.

Re: Fubars snow jeep build
Wow, quit the run around. One, think your making way more work for your self than needed. Snow is a game of traction, not really hp like sand, low gears and technique are your friends in snow. Not to say hp isn't needed sometimes but not as often and a 4cyl will work just fine. if making a dedicated ...

Re: More traction, Opinions please...!
Selectable of some flavor, be it e-locker, arb, or zip would be the best idea.
I believe the tru-trac would be a nice compromise too, TT work well in the snow, a little brake pressure help them trick them into be more lockerish.

Re: New treads on their way!
This should be interesting.
I have seen the 14.50s suck in the snow but the 12.50s have a bit of different pattern, closer to the old buckshot. Always wondered how the narrower tire would work.

Re: Naches trip
With these two Jeep, pushing happens quite often and works very well. Also during this run, pushing was the only way the Jeep could move, one couldn't get enough traction to push thru by its self. Being pushed wasn't always enough either, the picture with just the tops is me at the closet tree ...

Not much snow yet so I'll throw this out from last December. Not really good at linking, so the first three are videos and will probably kick you off to photobucket. Think the 3rd one down sums up the day the best. http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i378/rjewing99/12-1-12_snow/th_IMG_0088-1.jpg ...
