Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018
I think I'm planning to go out Saturday if anyone is interested. You still have to go pretty high right now to get into much snow (probably 3500-4000ft before it gets good). Should be 1-2 feet of fresh this week since the big rain cycle. I was probably going to go I-90 and maybe over to Cle Elum but...

Re: Wheeling Tomorrow
Anyone want to come out tomorrow? Would like to find untracked snow, any suggestions on where to go? I usually just do I90/Tonga Ridge after a storm but it hasn't snowed in way too long so I have to try harder to avoid the tracked ruts. You planning on maybe trying to arrange rides this winter? Tha...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018
I somehow missed this update. Wow, what a trip. Was it an overnighter? No, that was a one-day trip. I think around 8 or 9 hours aired down and maybe 14 hour round trip to the city. This weekend, went on an over-night up Twin Lakes. Broke trail to about 4000 feet in a few feet of fairly heavy fresh ...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018
I went out this weekend too, had a great time, but only 1-1.5 feet deep at the most and just a few inches below 5000ft. Did a loop from 410 to I90 via Naches Pass and Manastash Ridge with a detour up Raven Roost (more than 100 miles of snow driving, not including I90 which barely counts). This is a ...

Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018
A new season, a new thread! This worked out well last year, so just subscribe to this thread for the year. Drove up and down Van Epps Pass and then up to Gallaher Head Lake and on to the top of Hawkins Mountain 4WD trail on Saturday. Got up driving on mostly dirt. Three hours later 6+ inches of snow...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2016/2017
Went to Gallaher Head Lake today. The last 0.75 miles or so had snow, but it took about 3 hours to go that section so I'll count it as a full snow wheeling trip! Difficult side hills, a steep snowy hill climb, and then patchy meadow where you fall through the snow into mud holes. Brought skis in hop...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2016/2017
Started out doing a loop on 4934 at Gold Creek. Went to the tower at 4970ft on old groomed roads, then down on the untouched remainder of the road. Many miles of heavy snowpack, great destination for a while still. Then did Jack Pass over near Teanaway. Mostly melted out, just a little bit of snow u...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2016/2017
Went up Glacier Creek Road on Saturday. Still probably 3-4 feet of snow for the last 2 miles. Had to cut out one tree and some medium-difficulty spring slush wheeling. Then skied baker to 9200ft. Turned back from there due to wind, cold, and ice. The best snow season is just getting started! https:/...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2016/2017
And now it's snowmobile-trail-season. No wheeled vehicle signs are down for the year here, went out FS4330 to 1.9 miles from Mt. Daniel trailhead. Decided to call it quits where the road had half melted out and I didn't feel like probably winching through. 23 miles on 4-6 feet of snow in less than 2...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2016/2017
The seasons have changed, and now it's slush-crawling instead of snow wheeling. Took exit 38 up an untraveled spur to about 2500ft then climbed another 2000ft and skied the North Couloir of McClellan Butte. It's also the season of tree branches, ripped off two fenders and picked up a good bit more p...
