Mt. Daniel Area Tomorrow

It's always last minute snow wheeling plans for me... heading to Mt. Daniel area tomorrow (exit 80 something on I90), snow wheeling access up to 5000ft and some hiking/snowshoeing (nothing serious, maybe towards Mt. Daniel or just up on the ridge as far as we get). Let me know if you want to come, l...

1000ft in town of Glacier... but the serious snow started at 4000ft. A lot has changed since then though according to the weather. And I bet there are a dozen trees down on every forest road in the state :frown:

Re: Baker Tomorrow (11/15)

How'd it go? Did you see anyone up there? Great... ran into a group of Jeeps at the start of the switchbacks, we got up to the final pair of switchbacks before the leader on 40's was high-centering and not getting anywhere. Then I walked up to the lake from there since we were so close. Probably 5 ...

Re: Baker Tomorrow (11/15)

I can't make this one. I have things I need to deal with tomorrow, not to mention my gear is everywhere at the moment. The Baker snow report sure is good though. I suspect you might have a hard time making Twin Lakes. Do you have anyone going with you? I am pretty paranoid about leaving my Bronco u...

Baker Tomorrow (11/15)

Going out tomorrow to wheel the new snow, leaving Seattle area around 7am. Goal is Twin Lakes (5200ft) then hiking/snowshoeing up ~1300ft to the Winchester lookout. Baker is reporting 2 feet on the ground at 4200ft with another foot expected tonight. There are other roads in the area if that one doe...

Re: 2015/2016 Snow Wheeler check-in

I'm here and looking forward to winter, I have tomorrow off so might go try to find some snowy roads... Anyone know where the best early season hope usually is? Highest mountain roads within a few hours of Seattle?

Re: Wheel Valve Stems

What are you using for On-board air, CO2? Did you find snow last weekend? Air compressor, ARB Twin... lots of water comes along with the air, presumably condensation of the compression process. Found something like half an inch of snow on pavement, just playing around with the ideal tire pressure f...

Wheel Valve Stems

Any tricks on freezing valve stems? Almost every time I air up in below-zero temperatures my stems freeze up then I have to hold my hand on them for a minute to try to melt them to get them to stop leaking. Last weekend I just gave up and hoped for the best on the cap sealing after having my hand ne...

Re: Place To Get Tires Balanced Well

You can also try balancing with a bubble, take a look at YouTube. This might take a little investment but if you're in-control, might be with it. A long shaky year with a lot of wasted parts... just got the Harbor Freight bubble balancer tonight. I guess I didn't even know what balanced tires feel ...

Snow Wheeling Weight Distribution

In general lighter weight is better for deep snow... but is there ever a time when a bit more weight in the back is better? Not for traction, but to keep the angle of attack of the vehicle from sinking. I would think maybe the rear end sinking in a bit would actually help to be able to get the vehic...

Re: TRIP PLANNING - 05/10/15 - Hart's Pass

Did this happen? From the couple patches of snow I drove on today, I can't imagine doing anything serious on that snowpack. No traction, it's just slush at this point.

FS4330 and Cathedral Rock 3/22/15

FS4330 opened to wheeled vehicles last week! Road wasn't too hard but not rutted the last few miles so some fun Spring wheeling. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8701/16735867159_f0a8e21f0a.jpg Scatter Creek crossing, only about 18" deep. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7283/16715821269_1c65113e78...

As long as you remove your license plates, can you legally drive roads that are "closed to licensed motor vehicles"?

Re: Place To Get Tires Balanced Well

Rotating them did make it slightly worse but not by much. I don't think it's anything loose, went around and checked torques a while back. Might try adjustable control arms to get my caster angle back to stock. Otherwise, I guess I'll just live with it for now. It's not that bad or dangerous, I just...
