Re: First snow wheeling trip this season
Yes they are the ttc radials. They like to air down. They came broke in. My trxus mt swampers took a long time to break in. These were immediatly good. They pull really well when spinning. Little noisy on highway. Had a bunch of conditions in short order. They are good in rock mud and snow. I think ...

First snow wheeling trip this season
Well although we weren't expecting as much snow on this trip as we did, it's not surprising either. My Jeep did better than expected with only 33" bajaclaws and open diffs. Broke trail most of the way. A Tj rubi on 35's had to do a section where I couldn't get back on top. I tried time lapse on...

Re: welding front diff spider gears
His bronco has hubs so front end only spins when needed but you'd prob not be able to use 4wd on icy roads even. But having had selectable lockers and also a Detroit, I personally rather have open diffs to fully locked. The steering is bad and the stress isn't good for parts. Anything resembling a s...

Re: welding front diff spider gears
Personally it's not something I'd ever do. I can't stand the thought of even an auto locked up front. The steering is really bad in 4wd with the binding up while steering. I know guys that say it isn't that bad but I personally prefer open diffs to fully locked ones most of the time. The odd time it...

Re: 38x14.5 vs. 40x13.5
Way long time ago I know but I'll answer my opinions anyways. A wider tire has more resistance and is harder to push. It's like a snowshoe vs ski questions. A taller skinnier tire will air down more like a ski and be a lot easier to push in soft deep snow and prob go a lot further. The shorter wider...

Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...
Just a reference but here's 4 psi in my newish trxus http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee298/rubiconnorth/Jeep%20trips/D9486AFA-96DB-4A78-B427-CEAA526B0502.jpg Think it's finally starting to break in. At 6psi I had about 14" of tire contacting flat hard ground. When I got stuck I dropped to 4 ...

Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...
The baja claw ttc is an awesome looking tire too. I had mtr/k's on my jeep when I bought it at about 50% tread left. They were noisy and had balance issues. Worked extremely well at moab and decent in the deep snow. They are wider than my trxus by a fair margin and only a hair shorter. Sucked on ice...

Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...
The trxxus mt do need to break in. They excel in icier conditions and road going in winter time over pretty much every other mt. Also like they are soft right to the bottom of tread. My buddy is running my old old take off with less than 20% tread and still soft 10 years later and factory sipes stil...

Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...
I hear you on that. They were quite a bit more than the treps and almost didn't go that way myself for the same reason.

Re: New Sneakers with Tax Refund...
My short list for 35x12.5r15 I bought this summer was trxus mt's and maxxis trepador radials. Trxus has soft sidewalls and killer factory sipes and do really well in the snow which is why I went that way and the treps are heavier and stronger sidewalls so I rock crawled more often I would have went ...

Re: Sliding Backwards
From my experience driving trucks off highway if I start sliding backwards and can't hold it usually best off to push in clutch or find nuetral and steer to back into the high side bank. Either you'll be stopped there or spin around and drive it out forwards down the hill. If you've lost control I'd...

Re: Fubars snow jeep build
Just found goodyears military tire site and if my eyes don't decieve me those tires are in excess of 200 pounds each. They are designed for 5 ton trucks. With no air in them i think you'd barely notice it. Caribou 6x6 in Quesnel bc can get those too and might save you a ton in shipping to retrieve t...

Re: Fubars snow jeep build
Those military tires are super heavy and sidewalls super stiff. Need dual beadlocks and no air whatsoever at a minimum with heavy grooving and siping.

Re: Need some help getting set up
I know 33x12.5 fit your truck without a lift at all. I've seen 2 personally like that. That being said a 35 only needs a little over 1" more room when turned so I wouldn't think it would be a problem. If a guy found an old 35 someone was getting rid of you could mount one up and cycle and turn ...

Re: Need some help getting set up
A 2000 f150 should go 35's with a leveling kit and some minor trimming. I would shoot for something like a duratrac studded up and air way down. Smittybuilt has a killer 12v air comp that makes airing up fairly painless. Lockers are expensive so it budget is tight I'd make sure your suspension isn't...

Re: Questions about snow wheeling "willing" :)
Those portals are really cool in helping out. That being said tire size rules. My jeep is 4000 pounds and on 35x12.5 tires and it's barely enough. Lacking actually for true snow wheeling. Silicone sealant will hurt bead retention (make it worse) than not having any. One tip I've seen is mounting tir...

Re: 2015/2016 Snow Wheeler check-in
The night of nov 14 I'm headed out snow wheeling. New swamper trxus mt's to try out. Should be a solid run. Original plan is already out due to snowmobiles already have the mountain beat down. But lots of places to go. I'll post up pics when I get a chance.
