Goodyear MTR w/Kevlar GROOVED for snow... Snow Rags #2
I bought these 35x12.50 15 Goodyears last fall and put about 34K miles on them since then. The tires worked great at 3-4 psi in the snow last winter, the few times I got out. They are pretty well spent with only a few 32nds tread left. Probably 7-10% tread. For the first half of the tread depth thes...

"I want that one" Christmas Tree Expedition
So we went out to the hills close to home with our firewood permit and got a Christmas tree. My wife and boys spotted this perfect one on top of a rock outcropping. It wasn't really wheeling other than a few frozen creek crossings so I am posting it in chat...

Re: Do big lugs really help?
I really want a set of these AT405s from these guys: http://www.arctictrucks.com/?pageid=1296&categoryid=208 An actual snow tire that's 38". I think big lugs do help alot but in my experience it depends on the temp and consistancy of the snow. I have been spanked soundly by mild all terrain...

Yes indeed, wool is where it's at and if you shop in the right places you can even afford it. Military surplus is good to.

Finally got the saw mill up and running again and started milling timbers. We need to mill about 300 feet of 6x8 and a bunch of floor joists, then we can put up our allready milled walls.

You will really enjoy the 5.29s with a 22re. That gearing puts everthing just right. Can't go wrong with a detroit either. Now go wheeling and see how awesome it is to have more wheels turning!

Re: Aluminum Vs. Steel Rims in Cold?
The only thing I have seen cause problems over the years is chrome plated rims. I'm sure it depends on how tight the tire seats on the rim but chrome seems to be more slipery.
I prefer steel in general as well for beatability.

Re: 1987 4runner SAS
Nice 4Runner! You will love the MTRs, I am finishing off a set right now. They were really great in the snow at 4 psi. On the lockers, don't even think about it, just get some kind of lockers. As far as the birfs, you are right on the line of durability with stock birfs and 35s but in the snow you h...

Re: What do you use for nav?
I have to map, locate and inspect remote parcels of land as part of my job, so after trying several mapping alternatives I use a combination of a fairly simple mapping program (National Geographic's Topo) that allows you to mark waypoints as you need them and then I use a garmin GPS in the field, us...

Re: Anyone getting any??
Got our first low country snow today, about 2-3" of wet-ish powder. The 7% tread goodyears are sucking on the road ice, I think I'll take the hot knife to them this week so I can run them a few more weeks.

Re: Low Pressure Air Gauges
I have a mechanical one that came with some oasis tire deflators back in like 1998. Seems to be consistant and it registers down to 1 or 2 psi. Not sure how accurate it is. I had a digital one all of us used to buy from sears years ago that was pretty good but those are long since gone.

It's about time to start planning our first Montana snow wheeling trip of the winter... Are you up for a late Nov/Dec ride? Craig Yes indeed... I need to get ahold of some fresh tires but keep me posted. We are in the middle of selling our house so probably into December will be more realistic for ...

Well we got to run the 4.30 front 4.37 rear setup in a 4x4 trials competition with dirt, mud and rocks and in the very goopy mud on our property. It DEFINATELY plays in the mud. If you apply a bit of throttle when the rear end is out on a slick sidehill the whole truck immediately straitens out. At ...

Well as it turns out the inner gossip circle in our fair community had been spreading around that we allready had our house mostly up and had some sort of sketchy drain system that dumped out refuse back into the creek. Also the access we have been using skirts what is called "the park", a...

We have our piers set and all leveled. We also ended up with a perfect sized set of new trusses we traded strait accross for a mule. The community at large is attempting to shut us down though. We are in the county where no permits of any kind have to be pulled, but after numerous phone calls from c...

We are still working on the off grid place, it's a slow process but so far successfull because everything is still paid for. I'll post up on that thread soon.
