Re: Costco Winter Gear 2013-2014
Let me know if you go back, I would love one of the Eddie Bauer coats but I won't be at Costco before they are gone. The Kirkland Down Jackets have been reduced again to - $24.97 http://www.snowtrek.org/costco-gear-2013/TN_kirkland-down-jacket-clearance.jpg The First Ascent Down Jackets have been re...

Re: Friggin' Brrrrr...
Is 11° here this morning so I am drinking coffee for a bit before I do anything. Funny though I was talking to some people from Eastern WA last night and at there school they canceled recess because kids get frost bite in about 5 min in 5° weather. Not something I remember as a kid here.

I bought a set of shovels, it will fit in my pack, it's light and perfect for hiking IMO. Nobody you can have the other one for your pack, for the ankle bitters or for igloo building version 2.0, call it am early x-mas present.

They did clump a bit, but not one huge glob. The guy who pulled the tires off cussed me out because of the "black shit" that got all over him .°-/

Re: Balancing wheels AND tires
I tried bb's in my TSL SX tires a few years back. I did not use anything fancy just plain old bb's and I don't know if it was bent wheels, or of round tires or the bias tires but it did not make any real noticeable difference. I now have radial stampers and no balance seems 100x better than before. ...

Re: Do big lugs really help?
Surface area is important and lug edges to grip in some snow conditions. My big question or concern would be how a retread would handle the flex of airing down to single digits. If they would hold up to that and flexed well, like a radial vs bias, I would be interested.

These pictures are unfair because he is not always stuck, but when it is stuck there is plenty of time to get pictures! and my back still hurts from pulling him out. I was worse than that one day, had to crawl out the window onto the level of the snow. http://www.snowtrek.org/iron-mountain-1-15-06/i...

I agree if you are just filling a rire but I blow tires all the way off of wheels. The tank at 145psi makes seating the bead much easier.n16ht5 wrote:I dont run a tank, they don't do anything for you if you are just filling tires.

Re: 1987 4runner SAS
Haha yes, easy but none the less it's certs! Anyway, I have factory AC because I have an SR5, so the AC pump is already there, and I've seen my buddies do it to their Toyota AC so I know how to do it I just didn't know whether it was worth it I think it would be worth it, unless the ac works and yo...

Go with an engine driven compressor, a York is my preference but I have used a few different stock ac pumps so if you can fund a factory bolt on it might be worth trying.

Re: Fubars snow jeep build
Moving axles vs stretching is the way I would go, easier and it will give you better approach and departure angles. As for a flat bed, it sounds great but often the steel gets heavy fast and can be heavier than original. If it was me I would not reinvent the wheel, stretch it, keep it low. As for li...

Pilchuck
Well its far more hiking than mountaineering but I took the dog up Pilchuck yesterday. I took off from the parking lot early so it was still frozen when I got to the rocks but still warm enough to go to the top in a short sleeved shirt. It's getting close, there will be real snow soon!

Re: 36x12.50 radial TSL
Beware the TSL Radials...! :mad2: after airing them down a few times they formed tiny cracks along the where the tread cap meets the sidewall. These soon became HUGE cracks (within month) I wonder if you bought old tires, rubber breaks down over time and I could see a shop sitting on a set for year...
