Gear ratios...

This year I have had alot of time to think about gear ratios in my 4Runner. I did an engine swap to a 3RZ, which is about a 40 horse upgrade on the 22re I had been running. I have ran several gear ratios this year, 5.29s, which has been my ratio of choice with the 22re, I broke some stuff and ran so...

Re: Lifestyle change, Montana...

Neighbor at the end of the road is tearing down a house tomorrow to make way for a new construction project. The windows in the place were completely replaced about 3 years ago. They called this morning and said we could have them all for free if we come get them today. We just have to haul them abo...

Re: 36x12.50 radial TSL

I have seen the tread separation/crack thing on a set of 32" bias TSLs a buddy had years ago. I have had several sets of swampers sith no problems at all though. I would guess if they sit around for years it could certainly contribute. I also have notoce greatly varied results with the differen...

Re: 36x12.50 radial TSL

I think the main advantage of the irok is there are larger sizes available. In todays world 36-38 are baby tires. Since the Radial TSL only goes up to 38, they were never even considered by a lot of people. Then again a lot of people would never consider a radial. If total mileage is a concern, I s...

Re: 36x12.50 radial TSL

So other than the new coolness and probable longer availability do you guys see any real world advantage in the IROKS vs. these old school radial TSLs in the snow? I really like the nice skinny profile for my setup. Also would you put these on beadlocks or do they stay on respectably well on regular...

Re: 36x12.50 radial TSL

Yeah I run 31" treadwrights most of the time on my '80 Toyota pickup, they are really outstanding in the snow and all around but I have a garage full of 15" wheels and the price of a decent set of 16s or 16.5 beadlocks kind of makes it a wash to run them on the big 4runner...

That's cool that he was heating his hot water with wood heat. How did he work it out? I'm not sure how effective it will be because I've never been around it but we are really trying to work in the passive solar thing with alot of glass on the south side and masonry or slab extending into the main p...

Re: Lifestyle change, Montana...

We figure we have to go all in on it to make it work, no mortgage, no credit cards and all that. Everythng paid for, everything in the future bought with cash. Right now we have a milk cow, chickens and raise, grow or shoot most of what we eat anyway. When we get it all running we can keep about 65-...

36x12.50 radial TSL

I had sent this message as a PM to Nobody but he said it would be a good question for the forum so I am posting it up here for all to see... So I have been pretty happy overall with the 35x12.50-15 goodyear MTR w/kevlar on my 4runner. Pretty good ride quality, not awesome to balance but within the a...

Lifestyle change, Montana...

So we were looking over our taxes and trying to figure out why we make plenty in our business but always seem broke... We determined it was all a combination of erratic payement from various clients with large droughts in income with alot of crap debt and the typical mortgage, etc with alot of expen...

Re: Snow Rags... Tire Experiment

H8PVMNT, We have a small group from the Billings area that has a couple of decent deep snow runs each year, usually in the Little Belts, Castle Mtns or the Pryors. Its a great group of guys and gals with decently built rigs on everything from 35's to 44's. I'll dig through my pics and post a couple...

Little tires + Deep snow = winch

Went on a work trip yesterday with the little Toyota and I couldn't help scouting a trail on the way home. There was a sub-level ice tunnel with water flowing down it under the crust. The passenger side fell through and I think I would have flopped if it wasn't for being held there in the pocket by ...

Re: 92 4runner build

Nice truck! You will love the 3.4. I have a buddy who did it in his '85 and it has alot of balls. I have the 3RZ and it's great too but it seems like if you start V6 it's easier to swap V6 so I think you are going the right way there... I saw in a previous post you were debating on the axle truss. I...

I always had my Toyota, I bought it new at the end of highschool. Back then it was a '94 pickup intead of an '89 4runner though. I had those same buckshots back in the day. Boy I wish they still made those tires!

Re: Just another Toyota guy.

Yeah I bought mine new and wheeled it four years but as time goes by and kids come you just need more space. The 1st gen 4Runner bodies fit on your frame pretty easy you just have to redo the rear bed area mounts. What I would really like someday is an overseas 4 door hilux. That would be pretty coo...
