Make a journey south for what has to be the worst idea in the history of off-road trip planning.
I almost want to go just to see what happens when 237 rigs go snow wheeling on the same road on new years eve night but it's probably just not worth it.

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2016/2017
Denny Creek, Hyak, and an attempt at Tinkham but too many stuck vehicles blocking the road. Hyak was untouched road. Snow was pretty decent but a little on the heavy side. Couldn't push the wall once it went over about 3.5 feet tall in front of the Jeep. https://c5.staticflickr.com/1/671/31214167580...

Re: North Cascades snow wheeling
Twin Lakes up near Baker is good if you get it at the right time, once winter really starts there's no way in just a big pile of snow on the side of the road. Early December might be good. There's not much in the immediate vicinity of Baker once winter starts as it all becomes snowmobile trails. Som...

Re: North Cascades snow wheeling
Are you talking right now or later in the winter? There is currently no snow wheeling in Washington State (the only possible exception might be Hart's pass? I'll bet it's closed the first day there'd be any wheeling though).

Re: Snow wheeling skykomish area 2016/17
I'll be looking to get out a few times this winter. No sign of snow. It was 70* at my house on Friday  It's getting close, went skiing on Baker today and there was a foot of fresh snow at 5400ft. Should be getting down to forest road level in a few weeks with some luck (although the next ...

Re: Snow wheeling skykomish area 2016/17
I live somewhat near there, and go up Stevens Pass a lot. Also will drive far for a day of good snow. Hard to beat Tonga Ridge if you get it after a storm, but it gets tracked out frequently.

Re: welding front diff spider gears
Seems crazy to me for a street vehicle, especially the front. I wouldn't even want a spool on a trail vehicle let alone something on the street. It'd put immense stress on the axles and I'd think stuff would start breaking in tight street turns (if you could even do tight street turns anymore, my tu...

Re: Fubars snow jeep build
Just curious, why would take a vehicle down to the frame build level and leaf spring it rather than coil spring?

38x14.5 vs. 40x13.5
Strictly for snow wheeling performance, which tire size would you think would be better? 38x14.5 for flotation or 40x13.5 for clearance?

Tinkham Night Run 2/5
Just got home from Tinkham, rained the whole time. Snow was heavy and saturated with water. Poor traction and the snow instantly turned to compact ice when moved. It wheeled alright in the ruts but the moment you got out of the ruts you just stopped. It took all 8000 pounds of winch (and just barely...

Anyone know what the conditions are where you're going? Not really interested if it's rutted out channels of ice. Hasn't snowed in a while.

12/24 - Tonga Ridge
Sat in line at the pass to go skiing, closed until 10am, then 11am, then 1pm and we left. Next up Iron Goat trail. Got two minutes in before turned around by wind fall (small stuff but didn't have a saw). Then Tonga ridge. Incredible conditions. Hadn't been wheeled for a lot of storms. Powder was bo...

My friend has Trxus MT on his pickup and I wasn't sure if he was aired down, then measured and it was only a few PSI.
I hear KM2's are too stiff of a rubber to do well in ice/snow.

Re: Looking for some help on places to take the club.
We don't mind going up high or a longer trip. Like i said its more about the specifics of the routes. I always just check snowfall telemetry (snotel and NWAC both have pretty extensive washington telemetry systems) to find what elevation recent snowfall started to accumulate at, locate a forest roa...

I went out today, so I have to do my xmas shopping tomorrow. I'll be looking to go out again after Christmas. You should join us on New Year's Day. I'll probably come New Years day, not positive yet. Had a great day, got up to 4500ft mostly in old filled in ruts then broke trail the last 400 vertic...

Re: Sliding Backwards
From my experience driving trucks off highway if I start sliding backwards and can't hold it usually best off to push in clutch or find nuetral and steer to back into the high side bank. Either you'll be stopped there or spin around and drive it out forwards down the hill. If you've lost control I'...
