Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018

Very nice! I wonder if your 17” wheels are affecting the low pressure performance. I can’t recall ever having worse performance at lower pressure...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018

I would love to, but the The Great Northwest Glass Quest just started and I’d get disowned if I ditch the family this weekend. Conditions sure look good though!

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018

I think today would have been great up north. I was watching the animated radar and Skagit county was perfectly inline with the Olympic rain shadow. Not a drop of rain all day. I blew it this weekend.

12 feet of snow in nine days

I was just reading the Mount Baker snow report . They’ve gotten over 12 feet of snowfall in the past 9 days. As predicted by the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center (NWAC) and NOAA, temperatures have warmed up at Mt. Baker today with snow levels up around 6000 feet combined with significant rain....

Re: Mattracks vs Tires

I’m not suggesting tires are better, but I do question if Mattracks are really worth it for what we do, considering all the extra hassle of trailering and swapping the the mattracks on etc. I suspect if the snow was good enough for the Toyota on tracks to drive without effort, then a wheeled vehicle...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018

Yeah, I think last weekend would have been good. I thought about going out this morning, but it was pretty windy, so I decided not to. It ended up being a really nice day today. I’m up for a run tomorrow morning if want.

Mattracks vs Tires

I just watched these videos of a Toyota Tacoma on Mattracks up on Tonga Ridge in some fresh snow. I’m surprised by how much he still has to work at it. I guess that just reinforces my opinion that when the snow is good nearly anything works, and when conditions are tough, nothing works well. It woul...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018

Some video from last weekend. Looks like we've had a some decent snow this week. I should have gone out today. Did anyone go?

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018

Took a quick run up the hill to check out the snow situation. Overall pretty disappointing for this time of year. Very little snow below 4,000'. What snow there was, wasn't great for driving in. I'll call it slow snow. Too much throttle and I'd start digging. I was the only wheeled vehicle up there ...

Sorry for the slow response. You'll need to use the Windows Photo Viewer to actually rotate the image. See the link below

Welcome to the forum. First I’ve heard of upside down pics. What type of device did you post from? Pic above is oriented correctly for me. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018

Let’s do Green since it’s going to be a some what short day. I’d prefer to leave the kids home for the longer runs. How about the Granite Falls McCheveron at 10:30am?

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018

Rat Trap will be no good then. Why don’t we just hit Green Mountain. Should make for an easy day with some possible entertainment. We just might get stuck waiting a lot. It’s most likely rutted out to the top, but who knows. One other option is Segelsen, but I’m not sure if the road will be closed f...

Re: Trip Report: Snow Wheeling 2017/2018

I’m taking the family tomorrow, so wasn’t planning anything too crazy and I’ll have to cut the kids loose to play. Not planning an early start, probably leaving Stanwood 9:30-10am. If I was going solo, I was planning to head out the Mountain Loop just so other people are around. If you want we could...
