Re: Custom vehicle badge link...

Yeah I really don't know why they would do that but I guess guys are actually getting them. It was originally posted on Pirate4x4 I guess. Wonder if I'll get a whole lot of spam or something...

Custom vehicle badge link... Badge Delivered, PIC

A guy on Marlin put up this link for free vehicle badges. I ordered a badge that says SNOWTREK to slap on the back of my 4Runner whe I get it up and running again. Hope you don't mind, I couldn't resist plugging the site. We'll see how it turns out.

Re: LONG day..

I agree, based on prior experience with skinny swampers, keep them on the 8" wheels. I have ran 32" radials and 34" bias TSLs in the past and flat footprint/highway pressure was around 21 psi for both of those. Of course I ran more psi for long highway but that is the pressure where y...

Re: DIY chains?

I would search around for some use truck chains, like the ones for a semi. That would give you plenty of material to make chains for 37s. Then just cut and weld to suit. I don't use chains anymore after running tires over 33", but when I did I found that chains with less cross bars work better ...

Re: Driveline decisions.... What to think?!

Yup, I made a rear square tube driveshaft with receiver tube and some 1/4" wall 2"x2" on a cheap build '81 Toyota one time. We never intended on it seing highway but I had it up to 60 with the square rear shaft and it ran just fine with very little vibration. For a front application y...

Re: Fubars snow jeep build

We use those here in MT. The freeze plug heaters make your rig more comfey faster because the heater is warmer right of the get go but I think the oil pan heaters actually do more for yor engine. We had -40° F this winter and my '80 Toyota would still start and run as long as I pluged my pan heater ...

Re: Driving on Solid Ice

Cool pic, you can really see how slippery it is. We have a peice of our land the seasonally floods and sometimes freezes. It's maybe 150 yards long where the ice is. One year we had drag races on it with about 17 of our 4WD buddies. Tire preasure really played on the launch. Throughout the day the s...

Re: 12-09-13 - Sugarloaf, Leavenworth

Thanks for the great pics. Your 4Runner looks like it's working great! Nice to see someone else wheeling with the family too... My boys are 8 and 11, love to wheel or do anything in the back country and are even starting to wheel in the snow a bit this year on their own. My favorite thing is that th...

Re: Friggin' Brrrrr...

Today we had the blowing snow. I hade a 370 mile work trip in the 4Runner, 60 miles of busting drifts on farm roads. The rest was just ice covered and white pack highway :(. Days like this is why my wheelin' rig is also my work truck. Sorry I failed on photos though, naturally I was running late so ...

Re: Friggin' Brrrrr...

Yesterday it was 0° F and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. This morning it is nearly 20° F so that's a 50+ degree difference from a couple days ago! The wind is blowing the snow around in drifts all over and it actually feels balmy. It's amazing how the deep freeze changes your perspective, a few...

Re: Friggin' Brrrrr...

Well it's not so bad all the time; usually when it gets this cold for a while we get a chinnook a week or so later and see like 40°-50°. So as it turns out we had -35° in Great Falls last night and even -37° in a few low spots. That would explain the slushy anti-freeze. My wife was driving it to a c...

No they don't close school for any kind of weather around here. On the clothes, wool seems to be the substance that separates the folks who can still operate and the folks who just give up and stay indoors. Bomber hats with real bunny fur intead of the fake stuff really help too. Dry boots and socks...

Re: Friggin' Brrrrr...

-30° F tonight! It gets a little sketchy when we get these kind of cold snaps. I carry a bit of fire wood with me wherever I go so you don't die if your radiator slushes up of something stupid like that. We had some freinds on their way to our house a couple years back that had their car freeze up a...

Re: Goodyear MTR w/Kevlar GROOVED for snow... Snow Rags #2

Ugh indeed. I think some ATs for DD and powder and a set of swampers on the side are probably the way to go for me. Years ago I had like 7 sets of tires for different conditions and it totally played. Of course I didn't have kids and a mortgage at the time, but it works out because you never put tha...

Re: Goodyear MTR w/Kevlar GROOVED for snow... Snow Rags #2

Yeah I was thinking of adding some sipes for even more sticky. I think these are a good tire to cut up, there seems to be plenty of rubber. I got rid of my work car this year because I have been using it less and less with mostly rural work trips and we needed to finance our mill for the house build...
