The 2012 Rainier Mountain Festival is the weekend of September 15 & 16. I hit it last year. The festival is a good chance to rub elbows with some veteran mountaineers, and an opportunity to check out gear that isn't readily availble in local stores. They raffle off a lot of gear and prizes too!

If you go be prepared to deal with a lot of people. I wouldn't consider the event to be an all day ordeal. More of a stop on the way to Paradise. Check the Event Schedule. We had some car trouble last year and ended up getting to Paradise later in the day. There are some great family friendly trails to hike. Bring your water bottles, sunscreen and cameras!
