02-01-14 - Lookout Run

Post by n16ht5 »

Nobody and I went up for a run to the lookout.
Image

Started off not thinking there was going to be much snow. By the time we hit the gate it was getting nice and deep though

The snow had a breakable crust about 7-9" down, so we aired down to 3psi. I later let all of my air out

I let all of my air out. The MT's are super stiff.

Made it... 3,800ft elevation and about 2.5ft deep snow

I drove until I hit gravel at 0 psi, and started peeling the bead off the inside and pushing snow into the bead area. When I went to air up had a bit of an ordeal getting the tire to take air. Matt's extra pressure on his OBA got it going though and made it home. Later in the evening I went and picked up a set of 37x12.50 BFG KM2's. I think they should work a little better in the fluff. thanks for coming Matt

It was nice to finally get out again. I was pleasantly surprised when we found the snow we did. We had about 3 inches of fresh snow on top of multiple layers of base. I was able to stay on top of the crust pretty good. I'll add a few of my pictures. I might add some video once I have a chance to go through it.

Bronco finally gets to see some snow

A few steeper legs of the road made us earn the summit.

Not a piece of glass left in the place. It's a damn shame people have to be such assholes.

Panorama from the lookout. The clouds broke up just a bit while we had lunch, then rolled back in.

For me it's about 45 min to the mountain, another hour to the top. Most of it was snow free.

I-90 look out, one of my favorite rides, especially at night when the ski resort has all their lights on and everything glows orange.

woohooo new 37s are on, no more stiff humvee tires. Picking them up they are about 1/2 the weight of the humvee tire/wheel combo! I couldn't believe how much lighter the toyota wheel/KM2 combo is.

Yes I do! Paying it off from my dad since he's got the new pro, it's an '09 dragon 800 with the 163, and of course I put the lefty's on it haha. Hopefully a pipe and can to come soon as well if it's worth putting on this year!!
