02-07-04 - Mt Baker

Post by n16ht5 »

Went up sled skiing at Mt Baker on Friday.

It was socked in lower down and snowing. Had the snow vertigo in full effect, couldn't see where we were going until we got above it.

Got quite a few ski runs in, snow was extremely varied in condition... 8" of powder in some spots, windblown in others, crusty, layered, etc.. weather was great though and we got a lot of vertical in.

Pretty much had the whole mountain to ourselves

Aaron dropping me off, around 7,800ft. We had some climbs completely pinned to get here

I came back up and went higher, stopped at 8,000ft. Wind started picking up quite a bit up higher so I turned around

The crater, not much further ahead. Next time I want to ski down from there.

Looks awesome. I didn't realize you could ride that far up. Is that the summit we are seeing in some of the pictures? Guess it goes without saying, be careful!
