Tinkham Night Run 2/5

Post by christensent »

Just got home from Tinkham, rained the whole time. Snow was heavy and saturated with water. Poor traction and the snow instantly turned to compact ice when moved. It wheeled alright in the ruts but the moment you got out of the ruts you just stopped. It took all 8000 pounds of winch (and just barely succeeded) to pull me out after I broke through the un-supportive crust and fell a foot into the ice high centering.

Turn around point and picture below is at 3200ft elevation. Half a mile away from the gravel pit, probably could have made it but I'm usually only up for one or two winch sessions when I'm out alone at night.
