Trip Report: Snow wheeling near Jack's Pass - December 2010

After a month, we finally got out snow wheeling again. Todays trip took us out the Beckler road toward Jacks Pass. The snow was bit old and not the greatest, but we made steady progress with just a few incidents. Our day ended when one bronco lost it's brakes, and the road pretty much disappeared under a snow drift.

Hey guys, thanks for letting me tag along. Here are my pictures:

Our first real stuck of the day:

Gotta love GM power in a Ford:

Little bit of shovel work and a quick tug and he was out:

Things get tougher when you weigh 7000 lbs:

Owned by his open rear end (giggity?):

Ford to the rescue:

Despite baby-sized 36's, the Hearing-Aid Beige pickup did great when the tires were aired down to 2 psi:

Breaking trail:

Jesse taking a turn in the lead. He did great for his first real snow wheeling trip:

Round headlights FTL (it's hip to be square):

Got some pretty nasty wind towards the top of the ridge, which had caused a drift big enough to finally halt our progress a little further ahead:

Jesse: "I didn't realize you could wheel in any depth of snow...all this time I thought people were just wheeling in a couple feet of snow."

Good trip, thanks again for making it a fun one!

Thanks for the pics. The noobs did very well snow wheeling. I was really surprised. Most people don't pick it up that quickly. Wish we had some better snow, but it was still a lot of fun. Not sure I could have made it down without brakes though

Jack's Pass is on the wet side of Stevens pass. Take Beckler rd North off highway 2 near Skykomish. There are a lot of different forest service roads in the area that you can run. There's a pretty big open play area there. Lot of fun if you can catch it with a few feet of fresh snow.
