Costco Winter Gear 2013
Costco Winter Gear 2013
Every year Costco gets in great winter gear, so lets dedicate a thread to Costco! I stopped by Costco today, and here are few things that I saw. I expect more new products over the next couple of months.
First up is the Rush Snowtube. $59.99
I already have 2 of these things. I highly recommend them! They work very well and are very well made. killer price! This year they are coming in yellow.
Lifeline Snow Shovel 2pack - $19.79 (price dropped to $15.79. See below)
Not something I would depend on, but the price is right for play shovels.
Edit: I had another look at the display model today. I can flex the scoop with my hands. I could probably deform it with a little effort. Again, NOT something you want to depend on if you need to cut through compacted snow and ice.
Kirkland Mens Wool Sock 4 pack- $11.99
70% Merino Wool / 18% Nylon / 10% Polyester / 2% Spandex
Wigwam Mens Wool Sock 3 pack- $12.99
These are nice heavy socks for the price, but they are only 20% Merino wool.
Wigwam Ladies Wool Sock 3 pack - $12.99
Only 35% Merino wool.
Kirkland Ladies Wool Sock 3 pack - $9.99
80% Merino Wool / 18% Polyester / 2% Spandex
TufKnit Youth Wool Sock 4 pack - $4.97
72% Merino Wool / 17% Polyester / 10%Nylon / 1% Spandex
Gaiters - $16.89
These are the Velcro type.
Yukon Charlies Snowshoes - $69.99
Come with trekking poles and case
Bolle Winter Sports Helmet - $49.99
Bolle Goggles - $29.99
Motorola MT351R Two way FM Radios - $69.99
GoPro Hero3 Silver - $229.99
I love my GoPro Hero 2. They just keep getting better!
...and I think that's about it for this trip. Keep your eyes peeled for more great gear at Costco. Let us not forget their awesome return policy!

Be sure to watch Costco online. They often get products not available in stores, and the online products are often the higher end version of products offered in stores. I scored some sweet Mountain Boy Sleds on clearance last year. Shipping is free with most products too! Costco's Canadian website offers different products. Not sure if they would ship to the US.

Here's a Costco tip we were told about many years ago. Notice the price of most products end in .99. If the price of a product ends in .79, it's usually a discounted price, the last of the product, and they won't be getting any more.
The lifeline snow shovels above are a good example. They will likely be discontinued, or replaced with a new version.

Just don't expect too much. I might buy a set for the kids so I don't have to worry about them trashing my voile shovel.n16ht5 wrote:thanks for the heads up, Need to get those shovels.

Re: Costco Gear 2013
I appreciate the demonstration of jumping on the shovels but, it doesn't prove anything functional. If one is putting the same load on those shovels in a real world scenario, they are already in over their head. Just because the one is stronger under the specific load that she demonstrated, doesn't make it implicitly better. I wheel a bit. I run D44s with 37's. I've never had a single problem. Rockwell's are, no doubt, stronger. Does that mean I should ditch the D44s for Rockwell's? If using any tool as it is intended, in this case the shovel, it will work. In my unscientific opinion, the Costco shovel will work just fine for a good number of years if used as it is intended. If you try to shovel an amount of snow that is equivalent to the weight of a full grown adult jumping on it, first, good luck and I hope you don't ruin you back and, second, you're using the wrong tool for the job.Nobody wrote:Just don't expect too much. Re: Costco Gear 2013
I just posted that link because it was looking at the lifeline shovel specifically. The point I'm trying to stress, is don't carry this an avalanche rescue shovel. Clearing snow from vehicles and general snow play is fine.
This is a little more serious.

Price drop on the Lifeline shovels. Now $15.79
Cascade Mountain Tech WOOL BEANIE 2 pack - $18.99
70% Wool / 30% Acrylic
New product! I bought these today. I think the wool is a *little* thin. The beanies are pretty deep for full ear coverage.
Wool Beanie, Balaclava, rain hat
Little Hotties Hand Warmers 40 pack - $14.99
Little Hotties Toe Warmers 30 pack - $12.99
Sylvania 100ct Color Changing LED lights - $12.99
So it's not gear, but our household has been waiting for color changing lights for years. The Mrs. likes all white, and kids like color.

Re: Costco Gear 2013
No bueno. I also saw that sale at Costco last night in Mt. Verlington. I couldn't pass it up. It 's a good thing Costco has such a great return policy. Though, I hope to never have to use it with these shovels.

Re: Costco Gear 2013
I noticed the shovels were $XX.79. I wonder if this will be it for the season or if they are going to be getting in an improved/updated model?

I've got a hunch that the shovels in stock now are actually from last year.

Re: Costco Gear 2013
I'm quite certain they are. So, will they replace them with an updated model or bring in some other snow tool/impliment? A little buyers remorse is setting in thinking they will bring in a better model.

Re: Costco Gear 2013
I wouldn't have any buyers remorse. Especially at the current price. Last year was the first year I recall seeing them. Even if they do come back, they'd be more expensive, probably not much better, and most likely a different color or something. If they had carried them for more than one season, I'd expect them back again, but it's hard to say for this year.
Edit: the lifeline shovels sold online may be the updated model, and $29.99 price
