Ride Report - 11-28-10 - Oso, WA

Post by n16ht5 »

Went up past Oso today... went a looong ways. Was going to come back out by Cavanaugh, but the bridge was out... went to go out by Iron mt, but the road was all washed out that way too.. made it up to Granite Lake, and turned around.. we followed snowmobile tracks up by the lake, so there has to be a way out from there, but it got really late so we had to head back. The explorer my friend drove didn't like the deep snow either, even with the chains chewing through the snow the auto tranny was getting hot... the snow was rock hard and deep. But not hard enough for my 4Runner to float on top with 33x1250s. I could walk it, but I had to chew my way through with my truck too. Was up past my knees when we turned around

Thanks for the trip report. I've never really been in that area. Sounds like you covered some ground. How bad was the bridge that was out? Do you know what elevation you made it to?

yeah, we went a very long way. got to 3600' by the lake... could have gone higher if we had more time. the bridge out on the cavanaugh side doesn't look doable without two lockers, 36s+, and a winch. but Im sure it could be done. the other bridge looked doable by my rig as far as I walked about 100yds, but the snow would have made it way to risky (off camber, extremely steep exposed sections). Im going to try it on my dirt bike next spring for sure.
